On May 29th, Stonex celebrated 45 years in the world of professional lighting and stage mechanics. And since it's not every day that you celebrate almost half a century of lighting stages, unique spaces, and impossible setups, we celebrated it as it deserves: with a great party, in the heart of Madrid, surrounded by people who have been part of this journey.
A hundred guests, including clients, suppliers, collaborators, and industry friends, joined this evening, which combined reunions, anecdotes, good humor, and that unique atmosphere that only develops when people with so much shared history come together. Things got off to a great start, with a sunset cocktail party on the terrace of the Hotel Inhala Garden (formerly the Hotel Santo Domingo): live music, freshly sliced ham, glasses in hand, and trays that kept passing around. It was the kind of atmosphere that comes from a desire to celebrate and good energy floating in the air.
Afterwards, we headed to the Belvedere Room, overlooking the Royal Palace, to continue enjoying a dinner tailored for the occasion. There, our CEO, Javier Latorre, kicked things off with words that were half speech, half collective hug: warm, fun, and full of gratitude.
Special recognition for 45 years of illuminating the theater
One of the most special moments of the evening was the recognition presented to us by producer Enrique Cornejo: "Love Theater," which he wanted to recognize our career and commitment to the performing arts over these 45 years. A thoughtful gesture that moved us and makes us even more eager to continue doing what we do best.
We want to thank everyone who has joined us tonight and over the years. Those who have been with us since the beginning, those who have joined, and those who continue to support a project that has never lost its essence: making light tell stories.
And like every anniversary, it also deserves a look back, so here's a quick review.
This is how Stonex has evolved since 1980
It all began in 1980, when Domingo Latorre founded Stonex as a manufacturer of professional lighting products. In a Spain that was just beginning to illuminate its stages, he was already clear that light would be the center of attention.
In 1991, we began representing leading European brands. In 1998, we delved into stage engineering. By 2007, we were over 100 people in an international group. And after the crisis, in 2012, Javier Latorre Marrón took the helm with a more humane, more solid, and more future-focused vision.
Since then, we haven't stopped: big projects, new technologies, a team that gives it their all, and, above all, the desire to continue illuminating memorable experiences.
