We all need a little magic in our lives and lighting designer and PepsiCo Worldwide Events CTO Steve Nield brought a lot of magic to the Ballroom at Barcelona's Hotel Sofía for the PepsiCo International Franchise Forum.
112 Ayrton MagicPanel R luminaires were chosen to introduce an exciting, colorful and versatile element to the backdrop of the evening's presentations, which took place in front of 400 people. The MagicPanel Rs were installed sideways, in groups of 14 units -2 wide and 7 high-, filling the space between the large LED screens that formed the backdrop of this 40m x 21m ballroom.

«The intent was to incorporate the MagicPanels into the stage design to complement the colors and tone throughout the visual canvas.Nield explains. "The fixtures ran in full channel mode to allow for pixel mapping, but the built-in effects macro was more than enough to create the dynamic effects."
Some of these effects were used on the fly: "The client was PepsiCo, and as part of a brand presentation for PepsiCo's 7Up, they used the internal FX macro that produces an 'up' arrow," says Nield. «It was not a predetermined idea and we had no knowledge of the content of the presentation; however, the host noticed this macro while we were programming and called for a mix of the number 7 and Up arrows in alternating fixtures at one point during his show. It was perfect".

Nield was able to take advantage of the square shape and versatility of the MagicPanel R for this event: “With the fixtures oriented laterally and so close to each other, we were able to change the look of the set simply by rotating the fixtures 45 degrees so the squares became diamonds. This, combined with the content on the screen, gave us the opportunity to create really dynamic effects.”
It is not the first time that Nield has specified Ayrton products: «This production was redesigned in 2019, when our intention was to use the Dream Panel Twin for the 2020 event. However, due to the two-year delay due to the pandemic, we replaced them with the Magic Panel R, which turned out to be a successful replacement. We chose it because its square face profile was perfect for the space and of course because of the reliability of Ayrton products."
Nield, concluded: "I have worked with Ayrton luminaires before and find them extremely reliable. Ayrton will always be one of my go-to tools for any job.«.
Ayrton luminaires such as the MagicPanel or those of the series Zonda, offer us a wide variety of creative effects and the possibility of designing our own through pixel mapping, opening up a world of possibilities when it comes to creating unforgettable atmospheres in this type of corporate event.
