The viewing environment 3D Augment3d of ETC winner of the PLASA Innovation Award 2019

The American manufacturer of premium stage lighting equipment closed a successful edition of PLASA in which, in addition to contributing to numerous Tech Talks, it has been awarded the PLASA Innovation Award 2019 for its new Augment3d software.

The 3D visualization has reached the world of scenic lighting to stay. As in many other sectors, this new tool is a valuable contribution that facilitates the work of illuminators and technicians. The special feature of Augment3d de ETC It is his facet of augmented reality. Thanks to this function it allows you to easily control from a device where we want to target a specific luminaire.

It is possible to configure the lighting from the same stage with a mobile phone, and thus lighten the entire process of space design and its subsequent assembly. As if it were a remote control, it is possible to point the point where we want the devices to focus or even point them all towards the device with the “Find Me” function.

It is a very interesting feature, especially in those shows such as musicals or plays, which are continuously replicated in different spaces whose dimensions change. In this way it is easy to control that decoration and lighting preserve the same arrangement and that the same atmosphere is always created.

A winning proposal

During the celebration of the last edition of PLASA, this new program, which is part of the next version of the software EOS v3.0, called the attention of the jury, which rewards the products with the most pioneering design in the industry. In the words of the jury: “This program will change the way lighting design and programming work, lightening the workflow and making this process, from design to conception, easier to handle.”

To demonstrate how much programming processes are simplified with this new tool, a “challenge event” was held where participants had to create five “focus palettes” on a console EOS in the fastest way possible: well using encoders, a mouse (in 3D mode) or the new Augment3d Focus Wand The fastest mark was 37 seconds using this last option, much lower than the fastest mark using encoders, of 3 minutes and 32 seconds. “By combining the power of preview, real-time interaction and augmented reality, EOS users can work faster and more efficiently before and during production periods,” in the words of the ETC Market Manager, Rory Fraser-Mckenzie.
